Those people who do not believe in the existence of aliens may want to think again when they see a 300 million-year-old fossil that was the inspiration for the alien in the horror movie by Ridley Scott, Alien.
300 MILLION YEAR OLD FOSSIL USED TO INSPIRE ALIEN CREATURE IN MOVIE
One of the scenes that come to mind is that of the alien bursting its way out of the stomach of one of the characters and then attaching itself to the face of another. The fossil was the inspiration for just this creature. The creator of the alien on the movie of the same name was Hans Rudolf Giger. Ridley Scott sought him out after seeing the artwork of Giger, and one of the designs was that based on the fossil.
HANS RUDOLF GIGER TOOK INSPIRATION FOR ALIEN CREATURE FROM FOSSIL
The 300 million-year-old fossil had once been at the center of abduction itself and later found and then returned to the museum in Switzerland. Police had said that whoever broke into the case that was holding the Aathal dinosaur exhibit must have been a collector of fossils.
FOSSIL OF TWO DIFFERENT ANIMALS WITHOUT SPINE FROM 300 MILLION YEARS AGO
Police revealed a photograph of the fossil, and it was then returned by way of the post box of the museum in a padded envelope. It was largely intact; however, one of the arms had been broken off. The curator of the museum Dr. Thomas Bolliger said that it is a remarkable fossil and is two different species of animal without a spine that used to live at the bottom of the sea about 300 million years ago.
A museum spokesperson went on to say that the fossil is very valuable and it is also unique, and so it would have been extremely difficult for the person who stole it to sell it on or to keep it secret as there was a great deal of publicity surrounding the theft of it. The design of the alien in the movie based on this fossil won Mr. Giger and his design team an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. However, the fossil is stranger than fiction as it is said to be the remains of an early type of life form that existed on Earth some 300 million years ago and it looks startlingly similar to that in the Alien movie.
